Checkermallow View

Painted en plein air at Checkermallow Access, a protected marsh in West Eugene. It was a glorious warm January day. I painted most of this with a 1" silicone "brush", an experiment to achieve a looser, impressionistic style. I love the textured effect, the simple shapes, and the sparseness of detail.

The Checkermallow is previously threatened wildflower that grows in this reserve. It has made a remarkable comeback in the region.
