Century Apple Tree

I had painted under this ancient apple tree a few years ago. It was later in the spring and the blossoms were gone, but I imagined how glorious it would look in full dress. I made a plan to return to the farm along the McKenzie River in Oregon this year when it was in full bloom, and it did not disappoint. The knobby character of it aged trunk was an interesting contrast to its youthful spring blossoms. I painted it en plein air, and enjoyed the experience, in spite of the frisky gusts of wind that turned my shade umbrella inside out and snapped the pole.
